Neoclassical urban narrative.

Poblenou Cemetery, at Avinguda d'Icària 204, is Barcelona's first cemetery built outside the city walls. Opened in 1775 and rebuilt in 1819 by architect Antonio Ginesi after its destruction by Napoleonic troops, its original neoclassical design incorporated Egyptian influences and a symmetrical layout. Over time, the 19th-century bourgeoisie, especially after an expansion in 1849, transformed parts of the grounds with monumental pantheons showcasing eclectic and modernist styles. This Sant Martí landmark is the final resting place for illustrious Catalan figures, offering a narrative of Barcelona's urban evolution through its funerary architecture, highlighted by works like 'The Kiss of Death'.
