Casa Doctor Genové
Modernism on the Rambla: Sagnier & Bru's mosaics.
At Rambla 77, Casa Doctor Genové stands as a striking example of Barcelona Modernism. Conceived in 1911 by Enric Sagnier i Villavecchia, its narrow façade was an exercise in architectural mastery, integrating a pharmacy and laboratory. The building blends Modernista aesthetics with subtle Neo-Gothic references, evident in its pointed arches. Lluís Bru's vibrant blue and gold mosaics are its hallmark, along with the relief of Asclepio presiding over the entrance, evoking its past. Today, its presence in the Raval reaffirms Ciutat Vella's cultural and monumental significance.
