THE VENUE
La Model, in Nova Esquerra de l'Eixample, is a former prison with a panoptic architectural design, conceived by Salvador Vinyals i Sabaté and Josep Domènech i Estapà. Opened in 1904, it operated for 113 years, established as a model penitentiary with a central surveillance hub and six radial galleries. Throughout the 20th century, it became a symbol of repression in Catalonia, housing political prisoners and trade unionists. Transformed into a Memorial Space since 2018, the venue preserves its original structure and hosts activities that recover the history and memory of a place that shaped the city.
