Vincenzo Bellini revisits the myth of Romeo and Juliet. He presents love as an almost sacrilegious act, set against a world marked by pride and violence. His “I Capuleti e i Montecchi” diverges from Shakespeare, connecting with the Italian tradition of factional conflict. Hatred is established as destiny.
Adrian Noble's production for La Scala in Milan arrives at the Gran Teatre del Liceu. Riccardo Frizza conducts the Orquestra Simfònica. Featuring voices by Lisette Oropesa and Raffaella Lupinacci, key figures in bel canto. Bellini transforms this clash into delicate music, with long, ethereal melodies that seem to suspend time.
A drama of vulnerability, resilience, and the desire to find truth. The ending, the suicide of the young lovers, becomes an act of fidelity the world failed to understand. Death is the definitive union, the place where life denied them the freedom to love. Two hours and 50′ of music.
