The Gran Teatre del Liceu commemorates the centenary of Rafael Martínez Valls' "Cançó d’amor i de guerra". Premiered in 1926, this opera is presented in a concert version, reviving a pivotal score in 20th-century Catalan lyric theatre. With a libretto by Lluís Capdevila and Víctor Mora, the work resonated with audiences due to its balance of lyricism, direct emotion, and collective consciousness. Martínez Valls developed a musical language of notable dramatic efficacy, rooted in European operatic tradition and Mediterranean sensibility. Its broad melodies, powerful choruses, depict a people affected by conflict, yet clinging to hope. Intimate love, inexorable war, intertwine without artifice. This version features the voices of Serena Saenz, Josep Bros, and Carles Pachon. It allows rediscovering the composition in its musical purity, highlighting the orchestra, vocal solidity, and dramatic intelligence. At the Liceu, this proposal is a tribute to lyric heritage, an invitation to hear music that continues to speak with emotion and truth. Duration: 1h 30 min.
