Dialogue on Barcelona's Complexity

Barcelona: diversity, intensity, and complexity.

ARCHITECTUREALTERNATIVETALK
FREEAntiga Seu Editorial Gustavo Gili

At the former Editorial Gustavo Gili headquarters in Eixample, a discussion tackles contemporary architecture against challenges like climate change and heritage preservation. The exhibition '(Diversitat + Intensitat) x Complexitat' serves as a starting point to dissect the city through three lenses: inhabitant diversity, community life intensity, and urban relationship complexity. The project views Barcelona as a dynamic sequence, constantly reinventing itself for a fairer, sustainable, and collective future. Free entry.

THE VENUE

In the heart of Nova Esquerra de l'Eixample, the Former Gustavo Gili Publishing House stands as a landmark of Catalan rationalism. Designed between 1954 and 1960 by Joaquim Gili and Francesc Bassó, this FAD Award-winning building (1961) was the epicenter of a publishing house that shaped visual culture, introducing key figures in art and architecture. Its functional design, defined by natural light and a lack of ornamentation, creates a space that, since 2021, the Barcelona City Council is transforming into the Casa de la Arquitectura, solidifying its legacy as a cultural and educational hub.
