The Gran Teatre del Liceu hosts a celebration: fifty years of Teatre Lliure. An institution that since 1976 has understood culture as a public service, a meeting place, a realm of freedom. Directed by Josep Pons, the concert evokes the spirit of the defunct Orquestra del Teatre Lliure and its original programs. On stage, cantaora Maria Toledo, soprano Marcelina Román, baritone Carles Pachon, and actress Muntsa Alcañiz, alongside the Orquestra Simfònica del Gran Teatre del Liceu. A selection spanning Kurt Weill — Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny (Aufstieg und Fall der Stadt Mahagonny) (suite)—, Manuel de Falla — El amor brujo (1925 version)—, fragments of W. A. Mozart — The Magic Flute (Die Zauberflöte) — and Franz Léhar — The Merry Widow (Die lustige Witwe) —. A dialogue between tradition and avant-garde, a tribute to Fabià Puigserver's vision and his conception of the stage. Two institutions, one understanding of art: exigence, risk, constant openness.
