The Gegants del Pi, centuries-old figures of Barcelona's tradition, commemorate 425 years of documented presence. The celebration, unfolding throughout 2026, presents a curated series of activities in the heart of the Gòtic and beyond.
It begins with the exhibition "Ara balla pel camí" at COAC, a journey from 1601 to today, the result of a decade of research in parish archives. This is followed by an inaugural 'cercavila' on January 23, from El Pi to the Cathedral, reviving an entrance ritual into the temple seen only once before, in 2001.
The Festes de Santa Eulàlia feature the Seguici dels 425, a parade with historical elements from 1601. The Cobla Ciutat de Barcelona performs an anniversary concert at the Basílica de Santa Maria del Pi, with a repertoire linked to the 'gegants'. The grand finale is the ascent of the four Gegants del Pi to the Montserrat Monastery, transforming the usual pilgrimage of the 'Gegants petits'. A book, "Els Gegants del Pi", will conclude the cycle in 2027. A route through the history and legacy of a tradition.
