Mercat de l'Abaceria

Mercat de l'Abaceria: Iron heritage, ceramic future.

Nestled in the heart of Vila de Gràcia, the Mercat de l'Abaceria, inaugurated in 1892, roots its history in the open-air market of Plaça de la Revolució. Its original structure, designed by architect Joan Torras i Guardiola, stood out with its metallic framework and oval roofs, a benchmark of industrial functionality. This space transcended its mercantile function, becoming a hub for working-class Gràcia and immortalized in Mercè Rodoreda's "La Plaça del Diamant". Currently undergoing a major renovation, the market preserves its structural imprint through a precise replica, adapting to integrate community spaces and a colorful ceramic roof with photovoltaic technology, redefining its role in the urban fabric, aiming to reopen in summer 2026.
