Every Sunday at 11:00 AM, Mercat del Ninot in l'Antiga Esquerra de l'Eixample hosts a live sardanes performance with music. A free cultural offering honoring Catalan tradition in the heart of Barcelona. The cobla band's sound rings out between the stalls, creating a festive, communal atmosphere. THE VENUE
Nestled in Antiga Esquerra de l'Eixample, Mercat Ninot goes beyond its market function. Its name harks back to the figurehead that, in the late 19th century, overlooked a local tavern—a social heart of the neighborhood. The iron structure, a listed Cultural Asset of Local Interest, dates to 1933, a work by Falguera and Vilaseca. The 2010-2015 renovation, led by Josep Lluís Mateo, preserved its original skeleton, with perforated slat facades regulating natural light. A two-story underground expansion for logistics and parking solidifies its urban and functional relevance.
