MACBA: Video as an Insurgent Gesture

Video: Raw testimony and relentless critique from the margins.

MACBA unearths a collection that redefines video, moving it beyond mere documentation. This exhibition explores how moving images become a critical tool, capable of activating perspectives, unveiling marginalized narratives, and questioning official history. A journey through three key moments: from the radical counter-information of the Spanish Transition with Video-Nou, the subversive experimentation of the Han Nefkens donations, to the uncompromising political vision of filmmaker Pere Portabella. It's a platform to understand video as document, testimony, and collective experience, analyzing reality through its cracks.

The Planns tip

MACBA on Plaça dels Àngels opens at 11:00; set aside at least two hours for the Video-Nou archive and the work of Pere Portabella.
