Francisco Mateos' “Milicià ferit”, a propaganda painting from the Spanish Civil War. Its purpose: denounce the conflict, exalt fraternity. Intended for the Spanish Republic Pavilion at the 1937 International Exhibition, alongside Guernica. It was never exhibited again after its return from Paris in 1938. Silenced by Franco's regime, later irreversibly damaged. The precarious materials, the urgency of its creation, led to continuous paint detachment. The losses are irreversible. The exhibition offers an approximation to its original expressive force, recreating its initial interpretation, respecting the work in its current state: tilted, under constant observation.
