The Font Màgica de Montjuïc combines water jets, chromatic lighting, and a synchronized musical score. Its hydraulic system choreographs the monumental square at Plaça de Carles Buïgas, right in front of the MNAC. It is a technical intervention in the urban landscape that uses light and sound as compositional elements, shifting the visibility of the surroundings after dark.

Font Màgica de Montjuïc
Light and water engineering from '29.
The Magic Fountain of Montjuïc, located in Plaça de Carles Buïgas, is a monumental relic of Barcelona's 1929 International Exposition. Designed by engineer Carles Buïgas, its construction in less than a year drew thousands of workers. Conceived as the visual epicenter of the event, this light and water spectacle featured an advanced hydraulic and electrical system for its time. Today, it remains a central axis connecting Plaça d'Espanya and the Palau Nacional, offering a complex interplay of jets, lighting, and, since the seventies, music. Its elliptical design, 65 by 59 meters, houses a system of 120 rotating prisms and 19 main jets, showcasing functionality that, decades later, still defines Montjuïc's urban landscape.
