Janáček brings "Jenůfa" to the Gran Teatre del Liceu with Àlex Ollé's new production. A work exploring the moral compass of a closed, rural community, conducted by Jonathan Nott. Asmik Grigorian and Nina Stemme portray Jenůfa and Kostelnička, the drama's central figures. The plot delves into shame, love, and a crime committed in the name of perverted honor. The opera intertwines the sacred and the sacrilegious, innocence and moral fanaticism. Janáček composes a direct, lyrical score that delves into the characters' anguish, ultimately offering a vision of forgiveness. A spiritual tragedy where pity transcends dogma. Approximate duration: 2 h 35 min. A Gran Teatre del Liceu production, co-produced with Teatro Real and ABAO Bilbao Opera.
The Planns tip
Janáček's intensity calls for reflection. A night walk through Raval, afterwards, to process.
