Dual Modernism: Domènech i Montaner in the Eixample.

Palau Montaner, nestled in Dreta de l'Eixample, is a striking testament to Catalan Modernism. Started in 1889 by Josep Domènech i Estapà, the project found its definitive splendor when Lluís Domènech i Montaner took over from 1891. His touch brought an explosion of decor that defines the palace, from its grand, glass-skylight-crowned staircase to intricate mosaics, Eusebi Arnau sculptures, and exquisite joinery. Ornate details hinting at the art of printing pay homage to promoter Ramon Montaner's editorial heritage. Now an institutional hub, its Calle Mallorca facade — with vibrant glazed mosaic panels and a sculpted eagle — and its interiors are a vibrant showcase of the era's applied arts.
