Park Güell
Gaudí's Magic Garden
Envisioned by Antoni Gaudí and Eusebi Güell between 1900 and 1914, Park Güell was meant to be a residential garden-city on Monte Carmelo's slopes in Gràcia. This sixty-plot project, inspired by British models, never fully materialized. Yet, its iconic structures—like the entrance pavilions and the central square's serpentine bench—stand as prime examples of Gaudí's distinctive modernism, featuring organic forms and the trencadís technique. Following its real estate failure, Barcelona City Council acquired it, opening it to the public in 1926. Declared a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1984, Park Güell remains a Catalan architectural landmark, seamlessly blending human design with natural topography.
