From July 2025, MACBA hosts "Spiral of Time," a proposal by Edwin van der Heide. The installation documents the sounds of Plaça dels Àngels, recording them since 2024, unfolding them until 2027. The work, in situ and site-specific, maps urban rhythms, natural patterns, human imprint. A microphone system on MACBA's facade has captured the acoustics of el Raval. A sound archive, ordered in intervals, reveals the idiosyncrasies of the surroundings. "Spiral of Time" establishes a dialogue with recordings from the Amazon rainforest, near Manaus. This nuanced comparison deepens the understanding of urban and non-human habitats, through their vibrations. The web interface allows navigating these records at different speeds. Time is visually represented in a spiral. It allows discovering new relationships between sound, space, and duration, unique to the museum's context.
