The Hidden Gaudí: Working-Class Roots and the Birth of a Genius documents Antoni Gaudí's beginnings through his collaboration with the L'Obrera Mataronense cooperative. The Nau Gaudí houses the architect's first three constructions, built between 1878 and 1883: the house of Salvador Pagès, the bleaching workshop, and the latrine building. The exhibition traces the young architect's technical experimentation with arches and ceramics commissioned by Salvador Pagès, offering a clear look at early industrial architecture tied to the cooperative movement.

The Planns tip

Nau Gaudí is the original building housing the architect's early work; take time to examine the arches in the bleaching workshop.

Nau Gaudí

The first Gaudí. Parabolic arches, contemporary art.

Nau Gaudí, in Mataró, is Antoni Gaudí's first preserved building, a bleach factory for the Cooperativa Obrera Mataronense where he experimented with parabolic arches. This constructive solution, which would define his future work, today houses the Bassat Collection of Catalan art from the post-war period.
