Hivernacle

Hivernacle

Modernista iron & glass gem.

Nestled in Parc de la Ciutadella, the Hivernacle at Passeig de Picasso 7 stands as a prime example of iron and glass architecture. Erected between 1883 and 1887 by Josep Amargós i Samaranch for the 1888 Universal Exhibition, this Modernista building, originally for tropical flora, also hosted receptions. Following a recent restoration that revived its original splendor, its three naves now house botanical collections and function as a biodiversity outreach center. Designated a Local Cultural Asset, its heritage value is enhanced by decorative details from Alexandre de Riquer i Ynglada.
