'The Magic Flute' Opera — Mozart

Light and shadow. Reason and revenge. Mozart reinterpreted at the Liceu.

Marcos Morau, choreographer and founder of La Veronal, presents a 'Magic Flute' that transcends the tale. Josep Pons conducts the Liceu orchestra in a co-production intertwining music and image. It’s a utopian scenography, a bridge between opposites.

Mozart goes beyond an initiatory story. Tamino and Pamina embark on a spiritual journey, overcoming fears, silences, and mirages. They arrive at Sarastro's solar temple, where reason, wisdom, and fraternity guide the path to discernment. Each ritual, a metaphor.

There is no light without its shadow. The Queen of the Night embodies wounded force, vengeance. Her aria, as fascinating as it is abysmal, is a sacrilegious act. An order to kill in the name of filial love. Female authority becomes destructive. Even Papageno participates in this tension between desire and discipline, play and faith. Morau reinterprets the myth as an adult narrative: knowledge is conquered, not inherited.
