Antiga Foneria de Canons

A legacy forged on La Rambla: from cannons to digital culture.

The venue

At La Rambla 2, the Antiga Foneria de Canons, a local cultural heritage site, encapsulates Ciutat Vella's history. Erected in 1537 as a royal artillery foundry by Charles V, its purpose shifted to a bell factory after 1714. In 1858, Josep Oriol Mestres gave it its neoclassical imprint, visible in pilasters and allegorical sculptures by the Vallmitjana brothers. After serving as the Banc de Barcelona headquarters and decades of disuse, the building is transforming. By 2027, it will reopen as the Centre de Cultura Digital de Catalunya, an epicenter for technological art creation and exhibition.
