Its design, by military engineers like Juan Martín Cermeño, reflects Enlightenment principles: a rectilinear grid and regular blocks, conceived to rehouse La Ribera's inhabitants after the Ciutadella's construction. The original ground-plus-one-story homes showed strict uniformity and optimal ventilation. Over time, this rational structure has coexisted with densification, maritime, and industrial life, forging a unique identity facing the Mediterranean.
