Casa Comas d' Argemir
Barcelona: Vilaseca's fortified Modernisme.
- Vallcarca i els PenitentsAv República Argentina 92
The venue
Climbing Vallcarca, Casa Comas d'Argemir stands as a testament to Catalan Modernisme. A posthumous work by Josep Vilaseca i Casanovas, also behind the Arc de Triomf, it was built in 1904. Its silhouette defies the steep terrain with a two-story main façade contrasting with its five rear levels. The building merges refined Modernisme with a medieval imprint, evident in its fortified look, circular tower crowned by a degraded blue trencadís dome, and details like gargoyles or geometric sgraffito. A local cultural asset, part of Barcelona's Modernisme Route, it reveals a unique architectural synthesis of Gothic, Mudejar, and Art Nouveau.
