In the heart of El Raval stands Casa-Fàbrica Erasme de Gònima, an architectural complex encapsulating Barcelona's industrial history. This urban palace, with its sober neoclassical facade and Baroque-style inner courtyard, was the epicenter of Erasme de Gònima's indiana textile empire, an 18th-century textile pioneer and key figure in the Catalan proto-bourgeoisie. Its rooms still preserve murals by Flaugier and Mariano Isla, dated 1797. A reflection of an era of modernization and industrial fervor, the building endures as a silent testament to the economic transformation that shaped Ciutat Vella.
