The venue
In the heart of Dreta de l'Eixample, Casa Santurce, or Casa Pablo Ubarri, stands as a testament to Catalan modernism. Designed in 1902 by Miquel Madorell i Rius and completed in 1905, this building was commissioned by the wealthy railway industrialist Pablo Ubarri, Count of San José de Santurce, whose fortune originated in Puerto Rico. Its symmetrical facade features stone balconies with elaborate ironwork and distinctive side bay windows, topped with black enameled ceramic towers and polychrome stained glass. Inside, a lobby with various marbles and plaster moldings, along with a unique children's sculpture at the start of the staircase, reveal the era's attention to detail. Cataloged as a Local Cultural Heritage Asset, it was home to figures such as the poet Román de Saavedra and Princess Alexia of Greece, reaffirming its cultural significance in Barcelona's urban fabric.
