Cases Francesc Farreras
Stone Modernism: Bestiary and forms on Gran Via.
- Sant AntoniG.V. Corts Catalanes 536
The venue
Designed in 1902 by Antoni Millàs i Figuerola, the Cases Francesc Farreras rise at the confluence of Gran Via and Villarroel. A prime example of Barcelona's Modernisme, its facade is entirely crafted from Montjuïc stone, subtly shifting with the light. Look closely at the detailed ornamentation: a stone bestiary of mice, roosters, peacocks, and dragons, plus gargoyles and vegetal motifs. Curved and triangular grandstands complete this rich sculptural narrative. Listed as a cultural asset, the building adds a distinctive architectural flair to Sant Antoni's urban fabric.
