In Vallbona, Nou Barris, El Rec Comtal emerges: an open stretch of Barcelona's ancient hydraulic system. Dating to the 10th century, with roots in a Roman aqueduct, this canal was a vital city artery for over a millennium, irrigating fields and powering mills. Today, at C Oristà 16, its waters still flow openly, irrigating La Ponderosa gardens. A tangible piece of urban memory, it's a living vestige of Barcelona's water management and economic growth, currently undergoing rewilding.
