The venue
In the heart of Vall d'Hebron, Claes Oldenburg and Coosje van Bruggen's 'Escultura Mistos' redefines the urban landscape. Commissioned for the 1992 Olympic Games, this iconic Pop Art piece transforms an everyday matchstick into a monumental steel and concrete structure. Standing 22 meters tall, vibrant matchsticks burst from a box; one burns with a blue flame, while others lie scattered across the ground, burnt or intact. The artwork gives a distinctive character to an area that, before the Olympics, remained on the city's outskirts.
