The venue
The Església de l'Antic Institut Mental, also known as Església de Sant Rafael, emerges in Nou Barris as an architectural vestige of a pioneering psychiatric complex. Built between 1885 and 1915, under Josep Oriol i Bernadet's design—with Elies Rogent possibly directing the church's construction—it boasts a unique neo-medieval historicist style. Its concave facade and twin bell towers starkly contrast the rest of the institute's neoclassicism. After its religious use ceased in 1986, the church fell into disrepair. Recent work has restored its exterior volume, though interior rehabilitation is still pending to unveil its original decorative details. A historic landmark at C/ Marie Curie, 8-14.
