The venue
The Torre del Rellotge, designed by engineer Jorge Próspero de Verboom and erected in 1772, was Barcelona's first lighthouse and a pioneering beacon in the Mediterranean. Its neoclassical, pyramidal stone structure guided maritime entry for over a century. By 1904, with port expansion, its illuminating function was replaced by a grand clock, redefining its purpose. This Local Cultural Heritage Site not only marked time but was crucial in Pierre Méchain's determination of the decimal metric system. It also anchors Ildefons Cerdà's urban vision, aligning Paral·lel and Meridiana in his 1860 plan. A tangible relic and lasting symbol of Barceloneta and its port connection.
