Nestled in the vibrant El Raval district, Hotel España, with roots as an inn dating back to 1859, stands as a landmark of Catalan Modernisme. Its transformation, between 1898 and 1904, was the work of architect Lluís Domènech i Montaner. Its public spaces, declared a Local Cultural Heritage Site, feature Eusebi Arnau's alabaster fireplace and Ramon Casas' marine sgraffiti. Elements like the coffered ceilings and ceramic coverings illustrate an intervention that redefined hotel aesthetics, integrating art and functionality in the heart of Ciutat Vella. The hotel continues to showcase its original architecture, preserved through various restorations.
