Jardí Botànic de Barcelona
Fractal design on Montjuïc: global Mediterranean flora.
THE VENUE
Opened in 1999, the Barcelona Botanical Garden spans fourteen hectares on the Montjuïc hillside. Conceived by a team led by architect Carlos Ferrater, its design features a triangular mesh adapting to the topography, integrating concrete and Corten steel. This space showcases flora from the world's five Mediterranean climate regions, from California to Australia. It functions as a conservation and documentation centre, linked to the Barcelona Botanical Institute, revitalising a former landfill and earning the FAD Architecture Award in 2002.
