Opened in 1889 at Plaça de la Unió 25, the Poblenou Market stands as a testament to Sant Martí's pre-annexation to Barcelona. Designed by Pere Falqués, its open-plan nave architecture blends robust exposed brickwork with the lightness of iron, reflecting late 19th-century European construction trends. Originally a livestock exchange, it has evolved through renovations, the latest in 2005, to house fresh food stalls. It retains its role as a social and commercial hub, a nerve centre keeping the neighbourhood's authentic pulse alive.
