The venue
Opened in 1848, Mercat de Santa Caterina stands on the remains of a former Dominican convent, making it Barcelona's first covered market. Its original neoclassical facade was transformed by Enric Miralles and Benedetta Tagliabue's 2004-2005 renovation, culminating in a wavy roof of vibrant ceramic trencadís – a new urban icon. Beneath, archaeological finds tell layers of history. Beyond its architectural allure, it remains a vital hub for fresh, local produce in the Sant Pere neighborhood.
