The venue
The Mirador de Colom, or Columbus Monument, rises in Plaça del Portal de la Pau, where Las Ramblas meets the old port. Designed by architect Cayetano Buigas, it debuted in 1888 for the Universal Exhibition. Its Corinthian iron column reaches almost 60 metres, crowned by Rafael Atché's bronze statue of Christopher Columbus. Inside, a lift ascends to a viewpoint with sweeping views of the Gothic Quarter, Montjuïc, and the vast Mediterranean. It symbolizes Barcelona's deep connection to the sea and its commercial heritage.
