Refugi Antiaeri de La Lira
La Lira: Sant Andreu. Underground Resistance.
- Sant AndreuC Coroleu 15
The venue
Deep beneath Sant Andreu, under the Societat Cultural i Esportiva La Lira (founded in 1870), lies the Refugi Antiaeri de La Lira. Built in 1937, this bunker was designed to shield members from bombings during the Spanish Civil War, serving as a hub to keep the club's activities alive. Its architecture unfolds through two flights of stairs descending into a narrow gallery, culminating in a circular room with a vaulted ceiling. Inside, a round stone table and a circular bench define the space, alongside a small water tank and three wall openings. Small in size and with a single access point, the refuge didn't meet public shelter regulations, highlighting its grassroots, neighborhood initiative. A tangible testament to Barcelona's civilian defense.
