The venue
At Capità Arenas 52, Sarrià-Sant Gervasi, the Mateo Calabro Military Student Residence embodies a remarkable evolution. Established in 1957 as Residencia Muñoz Grandes, it was renamed Mateo Calabro in 2010, honoring the founder of Barcelona's first military academy in 1716 and distancing itself from its prior legacy. After years of military use, the building was transferred in 2013. A comprehensive renovation in 2015 preserved its facade, grand staircase, and marble floors, while the interior was completely modernized. Today, it operates as a university residence, reflecting a significant architectural and functional adaptation within Barcelona's urban fabric.
