Urban microbreweries and distilleries: the craft within the city.

Hops, vermouth and gin, made between warehouses.

Barcelona produces craft beer in Poblenou's industrial warehouses, distills gin in Eixample basements, and crafts vermouth with unique formulas in Poble-sec venues. It's not a new trend — the city has embraced the craft movement for a decade — but what's changed is the scale. Thanks to these urban microbreweries and distilleries in Barcelona, there are enough local producers to enjoy beer, vermouth, and spirits without leaving the city.

The Breweries

Edge Brewing (Carrer de Llull, 62, Poblenou) was one of Barcelona's first microbreweries. Founded in 2013 by an American brewer, it produces IPAs, stouts, and sours in a 500-square-meter warehouse. Their taproom is open Thursday to Sunday with 12 rotating taps. They organize factory tours on Saturdays at 13:00 for 15€, tasting included.

Garage Beer Co (Carrer del Consell de Cent, 261, Eixample) is the most central and busiest taproom. They brew in a facility outside the city, but their Eixample bar features 20 taps with their own production and collaborations. The street terrace is a neighborhood meeting point. Average price: 5€ per pint.

La Pirata brews in Súria (Bages) but has a constant presence in Barcelona bars. Their beers are among the most recognized in the Catalan craft circuit — the Tremenda IPA and Black Block stout are benchmarks. Find them in bars like BierCaB (Carrer de Muntaner, 55) and La Rovira (Plaça de la Revolució, Gràcia).

The Distilleries

Two Schmucks (Carrer de Joaquín Costa, 52, Raval) isn't a distillery but a cocktail bar, yet they distill some of their own ingredients in-house — infusions, fermented syrups, and artisanal bitters. Twice named among the world's 50 best bars.

Barcelona also has smaller artisanal distilleries producing gin in small batches. These are discreet projects, without their own shop or website, best discovered by word of mouth or by asking directly in the city's bodegas and natural wine bars.

The Vermouth

Vermouth in Barcelona needs no introduction — it's the city's drink. What's new is the local production of artisanal vermouth with unique formulas.

Casa Mariol — a winery with roots in Batea (Terra Alta) — produces its own vermouth, served on tap at its Sagrada Família location. Morro Fi (Carrer del Consell de Cent, 171) is a vermouth-specialized bar with over 30 references, many from Catalan producers. And Padró & Co (Bràfim, Tarragona) has been producing vermouth since 1886 and can be found in practically any bodega in Barcelona.

Where to Try Everything

BierCaB is the go-to craft beer bar — 30 taps and a bottle list exceeding 100 references. Bobby's Free (Carrer de Pau Claris, 85, Eixample) is a cocktail bar with a menu that highlights local spirits. And any Poble-sec bodega with vermouth on tap is a valid starting option.

Craft production in Barcelona doesn't compete with big brands. It competes with indifference — with the habit of ordering "a beer" without asking which one, where it comes from, or who made it. The craft is, above all, an act of attention.
