Montseny is the massif you can see from Barcelona on clear days: a Biosphere Reserve since 1978 and a natural park shared by Osona, the Vallès Oriental and La Selva. Up top, Turó de l'Home, Les Agudes and Matagalls; below, the Santa Fe beech forest and reservoir, the chestnut woods of Viladrau and Arbúcies, and villages such as Montseny or Seva. Every weekend the park runs guided walks, mushroom and plant workshops and open-air concerts.
Area highlights
- Santa Fe beech forest and reservoirAn early 20th-century reservoir ringed by one of Catalonia's best-known beech forests. It turns gold in autumn.
- Turó de l'Home and Les AgudesThe massif's highest summits, looking over the Vallès, the sea and, on clear days, the Pyrenees.
- ViladrauA village of chestnut trees and springs, birthplace of the bandit Serrallonga, with witch trails and herbal-remedy walks.
- Park agendaGuided walks, mushroom and plant workshops and Parcs en concert gigs, from the Xarxa de Parcs Naturals agenda.
Check the park agenda before you go: many guided walks cost around €4 and need booking. On autumn weekends Santa Fe gets crowded, so go early or start the day in Viladrau.
